The Apprentice Contract

The Apprentice contract must be filled in, online and at the same time, by the parent and the new driver. Together with your child, take just 30-60 minutes of quality time to complete this contract which will not only give you peace of mind but also provide reassurance for your young driver! Throughout the process, you will encouraged to discuss together the responsibility of driving safely and you can even determine consequences that will result if your child fails to respect your mutual agreement.

It’s important to note that you, too, as the parental role model, will be held accountable by always driving responsibly and showing the right example of how to drive safely!

Some examples of promises made by parents and/or new drivers…

1. I promise to never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Did you know that in 2004, 32% of drivers killed in road accidents had blood alcohol levels higher than the legal limit?

2. I promise never to use my cell phone while driving.

Did you know that by talking on a cell phone while driving, you’re 4 times more likely to have an accident?

3. I promise to follow the recommendations of my parents when it comes to driving in adverse weather.

Did you know that braking distance needs to be increased by 25% on a wet road?

4. I promise to always wear my safety belt. Wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of bodily injury, due to accident, by more than 45%!

Despite that, more than 10% of the population don’t always buckle up…

5. I promise to respect the road safety code.

Did you know that more than 40% of major speed limit violations (i.e. in excess of 45 km/h above the posted limit) are committed by young drivers aged between 16 and 24?

6. I promise to drive cautiously near cyclists and pedestrians.

Did you know that in 2006, according to the SAAQ, more than 3,476 pedestrians were injured or killed because of vehicle collision?
